Join us for a special session with Lin Pardey (born 1944), who sailed with her husband, Larry Pardey (1939-2020) for over 40 years covering more than 200,000nm together. As writers, known for their small boat engine-free sailing, they coined the phrase, "Go Small, Go Simple, but Go Now!
Lin continues to voyage and adventure with David Haigh, while working on a new book to be published in 2024, the 7th in her cruising narrative series, and 13th book of her career.
Lin Pardey is a USA–born sailor, author, and international sailing educator widely respected for her pioneering work in small-boat voyaging and offshore seamanship. Raised in New Zealand, she developed an early love of the sea that led her to pursue a lifetime of blue-water sailing and maritime writing.
Together with her husband, noted sailor Larry Pardey, Lin became famous for completing extensive ocean voyages in traditionally built, engine-free sailing yachts under 30 feet—demonstrating that long-distance cruising could be achieved safely with modest budgets, careful seamanship, and well-designed small boats. Over several decades, the Pardey’s sailed more than 200,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic, Pacific, and other oceans, inspiring generations of sailors with their philosophy of self-reliance and practical seamanship.
Lin Pardey is the author and co-author of numerous influential sailing books and articles focusing on heavy-weather tactics, cruising preparation, and offshore safety. Through seminars, lectures, and training programs worldwide, she has continued to advocate for traditional skills, thoughtful boat preparation, and accessible offshore sailing. Her contributions have made her one of the most respected voices in modern cruising culture and a leading ambassador for practical seamanship.
